Choosing a Family or Couples Photographer in Columbus
The description “photographer” is so broad! Not to mention, there are so many photographers out there with varying services, prices, styles, and personality; the saturation can feel heavy. How do you choose?! With all of these factors at large and with an array of options, it’s time for us to talk about what matters most when choosing your family, couples, or WHATEVER photographer.
The combination of a photographer whose work you admire and personality you vibe with is going to give you the best possible outcome, and everything else will be secondary.
when choosing a photographer it's important to do your research. pay attention to their body of work. when someone is booking with me, i am assuming they like candid moments, connections, and warmth. if someone is looking for posed, light and airy, or studio-style photography, i'd likely refer them to someone who can better serve them. and quite honestly, if you don't like what you see, don't waste anyone's time. frankly, asking a photographer to edit differently is rude and most of them will tell you to kick rocks (joking!). but in all seriousness hopefully you do enough digging to have an understanding of your photographers style before you pursue booking. don't just go with someone just because they are a photographer who happens to be in your budget. their style matters. photos, in my opinion, are not the place to be bargain hunting- don't just go with someone because they are cheaper. everyone deserves for you to be certain of the product you are receiving, despite the cost. 
budget is definitely a serious consideration and every photographer understands and respects this.
being familiar with what you can afford to invest on your photos will save everyone a lot of time and energy. each photographer offers different services, has different needs, markets, and offerings. this is normal and doesn't mean one is right or wrong, merely means there is more than one way to skin a cat. you can find a wedding or family photographer who offers what you need and falls within a payment plan that works for you. 
a photographer’s personality is especially important when booking major events such as your wedding or birth.
if you are making an important investment into milestone moments like your wedding day or the day you give birth, it is crucial to feel comfortable with your photographer's personality. they are going to be spending the majority of your wedding day right next to you, and see you at your most vulnerable in the birth space. it is also an important thing to think about for regular sessions as well, because it is so important in general, to feel comfortable. if you feel comfortable and are having a good time, that is going to translate to your images. a photographer's personality can certainly set the tone for the course of your experience together.

it’s a decision you should feel GOOD about. it’s not a decision you should make on a whim or without knowing important details such as style, cost, services offered, and how they interact with you. sure there are other things to think about, so some questions to ask might be:
what is the turnaround time for image delivery?
do you offer styling or location help?
what is totally included in the price?
do you travel?
do you have experience doing "this specific thing”
the most important thing to remember is your photographer wants you to love your photos and love your experience. they put their heart and soul into creating for you. hopefully this insight helps point you in the direction of a family or couples photographer who is a good fit for you.
